York University's Bridging Program for Internationally Educated Professionals (IEP) – Accounting Stream – offers an opportunity for employers to collaborate on real-world accounting and finance projects while supporting motivated newcomers transitioning into the Canadian workplace.


Participants in this stream bring a minimum of three years of international professional experience in accounting, finance, or auditing. They are now deepening their skills through specialized training in Canadian business practices, tax law, auditing, and financial systems.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Learners will engage in applied, real-world projects that align with their coursework and professional goals. These projects allow them to apply accounting concepts learned in class to real business contexts. We're open to discussing alternative formats for deliverables to ensure they meet both your organization’s needs and our learners’ academic requirements.


Examples include:

Outcomes:

  • Learners will research, analyze, and implement accounting or financial solutions tailored to your business.
  • They will gain Canadian work experience, industry exposure, and familiarity with local accounting practices.


Deliverables (examples):

  • Financial reports or forecasts
  • Budgeting models or cost analysis
  • Tax planning documents or research summaries
  • Audit plans or risk assessments
  • Process documentation for accounting systems
  • Recommendations for financial controls or internal audits
  • Dashboards, Excel templates, or accounting workflows


Deliverables will be co-developed with employer input and finalized at the beginning of the project.

Accounting-Focused Projects:

  • Assist with month-end or year-end reporting.

  • Help develop financial planning and budgeting tools.
  • Design internal audit plans or update compliance checklists.
  • Support the implementation or optimization of accounting software tools.


Audit & Assurance Projects:

  • Conduct risk assessments or internal control evaluations.
  • Review documentation for audit readiness or internal compliance.
  • Create process maps for audit trails and data integrity checks.
